ID Released For Man Shot, Killed In Western Mass

The identity has been released of the person who died after a shooting in the region.

Luis Vazquez, age 28, of Springfield, was shot on Saturday, Aug. 21, on Center Street in Chicopee, said the DA's Office.

The Chicopee Police Department responded to the area and found shell casings but could not find anyone who had been injured.

At the same time, Vazquez arrived by private transportation to Baystate Medical Center’s Emergency Room and appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound.

On Sunday, Aug. 29, Vazquez died as a result of his injuries, the DA's Office said.

Investigators are asking for the public’s assistance if they were in the area of Center Street at the time of the shooting and may have witnessed anything that may be useful to investigators.
